Spotify celebrated its 15th birthday in early 2021 and (sort of) celebrated with the launch of a rather unremarkably titled new feature called Car Thing — a touchscreen controller that can be mounted on your car’s dashboard to play your favourite tunes from your Spotify Premium account.
While that particular rollout was met with a big old, “meh,” the newest addition to the app is so far being met with a little more excitement.
Only You by Spotify takes the Wrapped approach by offering up a collection of personalised playlists and information about your listening habits. Included in the feature are mixes and a new Blend playlist option on which you can collaborate with friends.
According to How to Geek, all you need to do to make the most of the Blend feature is tap the Create a Blend box to create a link to send to a friend. After they follow the invite link, a playlist will automatically be created. The songs in the playlist are labelled by who they came from.
The Only You feature works by processing users listening data which then allows each individual subscriber to explore a bunch of different, yet interconnected categories.
One that is sure to be a hit is the Audio Birth Chart — which, per Spotify, curates a playlist based on what you’ve listened to over the past six months. Your Sun sign details the artist you listened to most over the last six months. Your Moon sign demonstrates an artist you listen to that best shows your emotional or vulnerable side. Your Rising sign brings it all together with an artist you’ve recently connected with.
Another playlist that users can tap into is Dream Dinner Party — which collates three artists the listener would invite to their dream dinner party and tailors a unique Spotify Mix playlist for each corresponding artist.
Meanwhile, Artist Pairs highlights the unique audio or genre pairings the listener has recently enjoyed, while Song Year and Time of Day showcase how much the user listens to music from different time periods and what kind of content they listen to throughout different stages in the day, respectively.
“There are more than 356 million users on Spotify who know that listening is everything,” a statement on Spotify’s newsroom said.
“And with more than 70 million tracks and 2.6 million podcast titles to pick from, there’s always something new to discover, share, and enjoy—but we know that nobody listens quite like you. So today, we are launching Only You, a global campaign complete with an in-app experience and personalised playlists that celebrates just that.”
Only You should be accessible by a homepage banner when you open your Spotify app, otherwise, you can use the search tab to find it.
