With shimmering coastlines and year-round sun, the Gold Coast is made for beautiful restaurants. Not to mention that it’s filled with creative minds, many of whom have tired of city life, flocked to the area and are putting their talents towards its venues.
“Gold Coast restaurants excel in capturing the essence of their surroundings,” says Britney Turner, a Gold Coast-based artist. “Venues seamlessly blend a relaxed beach vibe with sophistication. Open spaces, lots of natural light and probably some outdoor seating to take advantage of the beautiful weather.”
Service at Gold Coast restaurants is a standout, Turner says. The hospitality industry in the area understands the importance of creating memorable experiences and that friendly, attentive staff can contribute to an overall positive dining atmosphere.
“Food-wise, there’s a focus on fresh, local ingredients,” says Turner. “Seafood tends to shine, given the coastal location, and you can expect innovative dishes that showcase the region’s flavours.”
Ahead, Turner shares some of what she says are some of the prettiest places to eat on the Gold Coast. From a rooftop hidden gem restaurant to an oceanfront institution, these are the spots you’ll be filling your camera roll with.
Rick Shores, Burleigh Heads
You’ll find Rick Shores inside Burleigh Pavilion, which is also open to The Tropic. It’s right on the water, with big bay windows often open to let in the sea breeze.
“The interior is modern with a touch of Asian influence, creating a chic and relaxed atmosphere,” says Turner,
“It’s known for its contemporary Asian cuisine with a menu featuring creative dishes like Moreton Bay Bug Roll and Pork Hock. Try to snag a table by the window for panoramic ocean views.”.
Cooly Breeze Rooftop, Coolangatta
Cooly Breeze Rooftop Restaurant is a hidden gem high above the lively streets of Coolangatta and with a culinary experience like no other in the area, says Turner. It’s open-air with chic furnishings and a subtle nautical theme.
“Order the Ocean-to-Plate Seafood Platter,” says Turner. “It’s a delightful assortment of prawns, oysters and calamari that captures the essence of the coastal location. To drink, order Coolangatta Sunset Cocktail, a concoction that mirrors the hues of the setting sun.”
As for where to sit, Turner suggests finding a seat on the edge of the rooftop. There, the unobstructed views and gentle sea breeze enhance the overall ambiance. Book in advance, especially during peak times, she says,
Palm Springs Burleigh, Burleigh Heads
Palm Springs Burleigh will transport you to a retro-inspired haven from the moment you step through the door, says Turner. It’s decorated with pastel hues and lush greenery and furnished with mid-century modern and modern pieces.
“Order the Tropical Tuna Poke Bowl, a visually stunning dish,” says Turner. “And for the ultimate Instagram-worthy experience, opt for a seat in the outdoor area. If you’re a fan of people-watching, a spot near the large windows also offers a view of the lively streets of Burleigh Heads.”
Tarte Beach House, Currumbin
At Tarte Beach House in Currumbin, you’ll find modern elegance blended with beachside charm, through the help of a palette of blues and whites, as well as the use of natural textures.
“The best dish to oder here is hands down the crab linguine,” says Turner. “Sit near the windows or on the outdoor terrace. Sunset hours are especially magical, casting a warm glow over the already stunning surroundings.”
Tommy’s Italian, Currumbin Beach
Tommy’s Italian transports you to the Italian coastline. Its interior features rustic charm, through warm tones, exposed brick and Italian-inspired decor.
“You cannot go past the $75 set menu, and definitely add the king prawns,” says Turner. “What a divine feast this is. Reserve a table on the outdoor terrace, and you’ll be surrounded by greenery and a gentle breeze. Or opt for a seat near the large windows inside.”
