Michelle Yeoh has won the coveted Best Actress award at the 2023 Oscars for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Yeoh beat out fellow Academy Award nominees Cate Blanchette (Tár), Ana de Armas (Blonde), Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans), and Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie). The 60-year-old made history by becoming the first Asian woman to win an Oscar in the best actress category. It’s also the first Oscars nod for the beloved icon, known the world over for her supporting (yet scene-stealing) turns in films like Crazy Rich Asians.
Michelle’s rousing acceptance speech encouraged women of all ages to chase after their dreams and paid homage to her own mother.

“Ladies, don’t let anyone ever tell you you are past your prime. Never give up. I have to dedicate this to my mum, all the mums in the world,” she said. They are really the superheroes and without them, none of us would be here tonight. She’s 84 and I’m taking this home to her.”
This will no doubt go down as one of the most monumental wins in Oscars history – there’s a new feminist icon in town and her name is Michelle Yeoh.
Everything Everywhere All At Once led the Oscars race this year with 11 nominations and walked away with a massive 7 wins.
Earlier in the evening on the red (read: champagne) carpet she told E! host Laverne COx that she was feeling incredibly grateful for the experience. “I’m feeling really happy. I’m feeling at peace. We got here. Who would ever imagine that this little movie that had a big heart, came all the way to the Oscars. So, I’m happy,” she said. “I’m just in a cloud of happiness.”
Last year, the top gong was taken out by Jessica Chastain for her performance in The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
