After all, most baked goods are made with eggs, butter, and milk — all animal products. But, contrary to popular belief, you can get vegan pastries and they taste just as good.
From doughnuts to croissants, here are the best vegan pastries in Sydney to try or recommend to your vegan friend.
Nutie Donuts

If you’re a vegan, this is heaven. This is a great place to experiment if you’re not a vegan. Nutie makes vegan desserts and doughnuts. Think chocolate cherry, fudge, cheesecake—any cakes you might already know but vegan-friendly. The carrot cake is a standout. You can get them delivered to your door or visit them in-store. The Surry Hills location has a brunch menu sure to satisfy everyone with its huevos rancheros, eggplant parmi, and other tasty vegan dishes. They even organise corporate gifting, ideal for catering for dietary requirements in the office.
Oh My Days
Glebe
If there’s one thing you get at Oh My Days, it’s the almond croissant. It’s near impossible to make a vegan croissant taste good since croissants are made with sheets of butter. But, after much trial and error, this 100% vegan patisserie has nailed it. Any croissant here is worth the visit, including the almond croissant. Although, don’t limit yourself. They also make toasties, fruit danishes, cinnamon scrolls, and cakes.
Le Gourmand
Newtown
The French are the last people you would assume to adopt vegan food, but at Le Gourmand, expect vegan French food from French people. Whether you’re after an assortment of macarons, a croissant, vegan pain au chocolate, madeleine and even a creme brulee—you will find it here. They even sell vegan pate and foie gras if you’re ever feeling fancy or need to bring something to a dinner party.
Bourke Street Bakery
Multiple locations
While Bourke Street Bakery isn’t 100% vegan, it’s known for its meat and dairy-free sausage rolls. In the vegan community, it doesn’t get better than the eggplant, chickpea, and mint sausage roll. Despite being butterless, the pastry is flaky, and the filling is delicious.
Black Star Pastry

Black Star Pastry is another not-so-100% vegan bakery, but they always have a few vegan options on the menu. The vegan chocolate popcorn cake is a favourite. It’s dense, soft, and super fudgy, topped with caramelised and salted popcorn. They also serve vegan-friendly chocolate cupcakes with buttercream rosettas on top. Don’t worry, the buttercream is also vegan. The orange cake with Persian figs is another bold, delicious treat you can pick up from Black Star Pastry.
Two Chaps
Marrickville
Two Chaps is another great bakery and cafe serving vegan items. Not all the dishes on the menu are vegan, but most can be made vegan. The menu also changes regularly, but during winter, they have a sticky spiced fruit toast and sourdough crumpets that are a crowd pleaser. If you’re after something with heft, the grilled garden vegetable burger can be made vegan too.
Miss Sina
Marrickville and Surry Hills
This bright, fun neighbourhood bakery caters to the vegan community and anyone who wants to try vegan baked goods. Think vegan donuts, heavenly plant-based cinnamon scrolls topped with a creamy vanilla bean glaze, and indulgent cakes for every occasion.
