Daniel Craig Believes ‘James Bond’ Should Not Be Played By a Woman — Here’s Why

The role of the iconic British MI6 agent James Bond has been played by many brooding men in the past, with the most recent being Daniel Craig.

While we’ve come to know and love his portrayal, back in 2005, the star made international headlines after people were horrified that James Bond would be reprised by a blonde man.

Now, Craig is making headlines once again, but for completely different reasons.

There’s been growing speculation as of late as to who will take over the role of James Bond after Craig, with some saying it should be a woman.

Craig on the other hand doesn’t entirely agree, but not for the reasons you may expect.

“The answer to that is very simple,” the 53-year-old told Radio Times. “There should simply be better parts for women and actors of colour. Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?”

The answer was basically a diplomatic way of saying no, but he isn’t the only one who shares the same sentiments. Producer Barbara Broccoli agreed, telling the Guardian that Bond should not be played by a woman.

“Bond is male,” said Broccoli back in 2018. “He’s a male character. He was written as a male, and I think he’ll probably stay as a male.”

Rosamund Pike, who starred as a Bond Girl in 2002’s Die Another Day also seems to be firmly on Craig’s side.

“I think the character of James Bond is a man. He is really,” she told Uproxx in 2018. “Why not make a kick-ass female agent in her own right?”

After a frustrating 18 months of setbacks due to the ongoing pandemic, No Time To Die is scheduled to be released in Australia on November 11. The film also stars David Dencik, Rami Malek. Ralph Fiennes (M), Naomie Harris (Moneypenny), Ben Whishaw (Q) and Lea Seydoux (Madeleine Swann).

With Daniel Craig saying goodbye to Bond after No Time to Die, whoever plays the character next is yet to be seen.
