Friends: The Reunion is just days away from finally landing on BINGE in Australia and, obviously, we can’t wait to see the core cast reminiscing about filming the show and how significant its cultural impact was and continues to be.
We’re also looking forward to seeing some of our favourite supporting cast members make an appearance such as Reese Witherspoon, who played Rachel’s sister Jill Green and Tom Selleck, who played Monica’s much older boyfriend, Richard Burke. Also scheduled to appear are Elliott Gould, who played the Geller’s father, Jack, and his TV wife Christina Pickles, who played Judy. And oh…my…GOD how could we forget Maggie Wheeler whose nasal rendition of Janice still haunts us, and Chandler, to this very day.
Then there are the celebrity guest stars who didn’t necessarily have anything to do with the original run of Friends, but, like us, fall into the “superfan” category. These include David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga, Kit Harington, Larry Hankin, Mindy Kaling, and Malala Yousafzai.
If some of those names have you either confused, excited, or both — you are not alone because Lisa Kudrow apparently felt the same way.
“I was like, ‘Wait, that’s Justin Bieber. Right? Would he be here? Is he here? He’s really here; that’s Justin Bieber!” Kudrow told The New York Post. “That was kind of exciting. I’m throwing in a ‘kind of’ so that I seem a little cooler. It was exciting. I don’t get excited about meeting people – but Justin Bieber, he’s exciting.”
The actress, who brought the delightful eccentricity of Phoebe Buffay to life, also explained to the publication how emotional reuniting with her castmates was.
“It was every emotion,” she said. “It was a lot of laughing and then real blubbering – which, I don’t know if that will be in there, but the puffy eyes are in there, so that’s good. It was an emotionally exhausting and great few days.”
For Kudrow, the timing of the hit sitcom is something she is deeply grateful for as rising to fame in the 90s gave her and her fellow actors a modicum of more privacy than what they would face today.
“I think we’re always glad about the way things happened when they did. Because if it were now, it would be overwhelming with social media and everything else,” Kudrow said. “But even in the 90s, you had to make an effort like ‘Don’t look yourself up on the internet! You won’t like it.’”
Friends: The Reunion will debut express from the US at 5.02 pm AEST on Thursday, May 27, only on BINGE.
