Hollywood has been buzzing with the promise of a new film starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney with Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts attached to direct. Now, it seems Apple Studios are lucky ones to have snapped up the package deal.
The Hollywood Reporter had previously relayed that studios such as Lionsgate, Apple, Sony, Netflix, Universal, Amazon, Annapurna and Warner Bros. had all gotten into the ring in the hopes of landing the dream project, with quite the bidding war ensuing.
It has not yet been disclosed how much Apple paid to secure the rights to the project.
Also remaining undisclosed as of now is the plot of the movie, although it is said to revolve around two fixers who land the same gig. Clooney’s Smokehouse Pictures and Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment will produce the mysterious Apple-acquired film. According to Deadline, a theatrical release is also part of the agreement.
Of course, Clooney and Pitt are no strangers to working with one another, having starred together in the Ocean’s 11 films as well as the Coen brothers’ Burn After Reading. The actors individual recent work includes Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, for which Pitt won an Oscar and The Tender Bar starring Ben Affleck and Tye Sheridan, which Clooney is directing.
Watts, meanwhile, has directed all three of the most recent Spider-Man films with Spider-Man: No Way Home set for release in December. The first trailer for the hotly anticipated film debuted at CinemaCon earlier in 2021, with fans responding enthusiastically to the snippet.
Tom Holland will once again star as Peter Parker/Spider-Man who will go head-to-head with villains from past Spider-Man cinematic franchises, including Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, Jamie Foxx’s Electro, and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin. Zendaya will also return to reprise her role as MJ, while Jacob Batalon is back as Ned Leeds and Marisa Tomei is Aunt May once more.
Apple Studios has a lot to be excited about, with the studio’s upcoming slate flush with A-lister led content. Also in development is Emancipation, starring and produced by Will Smith and Martin Scorsese’s western Killers of the Flower Moon starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.
