After being postponed from its original January date, the 63rd Grammy Awards will take place on March 14 with Taylor Swift performing at the annual music awards show for the first time since 2016.
Megan Thee Stallion, Harry Styles and Cardi B will also be among the performers on music’s night of nights, which will pay homage to independent music venues which have been impacted by pandemic induced closures over the past 12 months.
Trevor Noah will again serve as host of The Grammys which will likely inhabit a hybrid format such as the one employed by the Golden Globes. According to The Recording Academy, performers will be “coming together, while still safely apart, to play music for each other as a community.”
The A-list line up will also include BTS, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Roddy Ricch, Mickey Guyton, Bad Bunny, Black Pumas, Brandi Carlile, DaBaby, Doja Cat, Haim, Brittany Howard, Miranda Lambert, Lil Baby, Chris Martin, John Mayer, Maren Morris and Post Malone.
In a nod to the toll the coronavirus pandemic has taken on live entertainment, with venues closed and tours postponed, employees, ranging from bartenders to box office managers, who work at Los Angeles’ Troubadour and Hotel Cafe, New York City’s Apollo Theater and Nashville’s Station Inn will present awards.
Beyoncé leads the nominations for the 2021 Grammys with nine nods; while Dua Lipa, Roddy Ricch and Taylor Swift all earned six. Brittany Howard earned five nominations and Megan Thee Stallion, Billie Eilish, DaBaby, Phoebe Bridgers, Justin Bieber, John Beasley and David Frost are all up for three.
Of Swift’s six nominations, her surprise summer album Folklore accounted for the majority of them. The ten-time Grammy winner released yet another album, Evermore, since the Grammy nominations were announced in November and will re-release her second album Fearless in April.
Meanwhile, of Megan Thee Stallion’s four nominations, none of them were for her megahit collaboration WAP with Cardi B, as Cardi’s team chose not to submit the track for the 2021 awards.
The 63rd annual Grammy Awards are set to air live on Sunday, March 14 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
In Australia, you can catch the Grammys on Network 10 and WIN, live from 11am AEDT on Monday, March 15.
