The Headlines: Lady Gaga Made a Surprise Slay at This Year’s Oscars

Heck Yes: Lady Gaga Attended the Oscars

If you’re a fan of naked golden men holding swords next to their genitals, then March 13 was made for you. Because it was Oscar time, baby.

That’s right, the 95th Academy Awards took off and a bunch of filmmakers scored some prestigious little nude statues. What’s more, these folks also got to enjoy Lady Gaga performing ‘Hold My Hand’ from the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack.

This is huge news because Laga Gaga’s ‘Hold My Hand’ was actually nominated for one of these Academy Awards. It was up to win Best Original Song.

Plus, to make things more spesh, Lady Gaga was originally not going to be performing this song at the Oscars.

As Glenn Weiss, the Oscars’ Executive Producer, said on March 8, “We have a great relationship with Lady Gaga and her camp. She is in the middle of shooting a movie right now. Here, we are honouring the movie industry and what it takes to make a movie after a bunch of back and forth… It didn’t feel like she can get a performance to the calibre that we’re used to with her and that she is used to. So, she is not going to perform on the show.”

Lady Gaga’s surprise performance was a brilliant emotional belt. However, the little speech she gave about her song was rather cryptic.

“You can be your own hero,” said Lady Gaga. “Even if you’re broken inside.”

After Lady Gaga’s time on stage, the Best Original Song winner was announced. And to the dismay of some Gaga stans, she didn’t win. This award instead went to ‘Naatu Naatu’ from the Telugu smash-hit RRR.

What the Heck Is Dominic Perrottet’s Future Fund?

The NSW Premier, Dominic Perrottet, has just announced a wild election promise.

Perrottet wants every NSW child under ten years old to score a bank account containing $400. These bank accounts will be able to receive contributions from NSW parents and the NSW Government until their owners turn 18. Parents will then be able to add up to $1000 to this account every year which the government will match up to $400.

When the owner of this bank account turns 18, they’ll be able to spend this money on a house deposit or put it towards their education.

“This policy is a downpayment to secure the future dreams of our children,” said Perrottet.

“It will give generations to come the financial foundation for their entire life. By making small investments over time, we will be able to grow the wealth of our children so they can secure their financial future through education and housing.”

Yet, while Perrottet is stoked with this plan, some NSW Labor folks are less than thrilled with it. Take for instance, Daniel Mookhey, NSW’s Shadow Treasurer.

Mookhey said, “Instead of focusing on the crisis in our schools, our hospitals, our rail system, and our buses, the Premier is spending more time talking about a policy that he can’t deliver for 20 years.”

“At a time where interest rates are skyrocketing mortgages, families don’t have money to spare.”

How the Wet Weather Is Transforming Australia

Before Christmas last year, Queensland’s Cape York Wildlife Sanctuary recorded 2420 millimetres of rain. And while this weather has isolated the caretakers of this joint, it has also made the region a nature wonderland.

As Susan Gray, the Assistant Manager of this sanctuary, said, “We can’t move out of our homestead at the moment without bogging ankle-deep as we walk around in the grass, and we certainly cannot get off the property unless we have a helicopter.”

“But having said that, it’s an absolutely extraordinary experience to be so embedded in country like this and to live with country and the cycles of the season and the animals so intimately.”

Gray described the current landscape as “iridescent” and “green.” But, let’s pray that she can leave it sometime soon.
