If you were a teen in the 00s, then you would recall that Lindsay Lohan’s 2004 hit Rumours was seriously one of the most memorable pop tunes of the time.
Lohan was at an all-time career peak and not only released a series of teeny-bopper hits, including Ultimate (2003) and Over (2004), she also starred in films like Mean Girls (2004), Freaky Friday (2003) and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (2004).
However, in 2007, everything came crashing down, when the actor was imprisoned for driving under the influence, serving 14 days of a 90-day sentence. From then, the now 33-year-old was on a very public slippery slope of alcohol, rehab and arrests.
Turning the corner a few years ago, Lohan came back into the spotlight, this time with a resort in Mykonos and a (very) short-lived reality TV show called Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club, which was practically turned off the second it was turned on.
Her last single, Bossy, was released in 2008, but only hit the Canadian charts at number 77, whilst not ranking anywhere else.
More than a decade after her last solo pop single, the actor, singer, and The Masked Singer Australia judge, has announced a long-awaited return to music.
On April 2, Lohan dropped a teaser to her Instagram account, announcing that her new single Back to Me would be released on Friday (Saturday AEST).
“The song is about rediscovering and accepting oneself, shutting out the noise and moving forward and letting the past go. Living in the now. “Back To Me” is out on Friday!”

The release is made even more exciting by the fact that her co-star, Jonathan Bennett from Mean Girls (a.k.a Aaron Samuels) is just as obsessed as we are with the news.
On April 1, Lohan released a teaser clip outlining highlights from her career, including paparazzi shots, scenes from her music video for Rumours and a distorted song in the background.
“I’m back!” she wrote.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2019, Lohan said: “This is me as I am as a person now.”
“I’m tired of hearing about my past. It used to be ‘More people! More noise! Distract me!’ But now it’s ‘Shhh!’ Taking time for [me] is important. I learned that the hard way, unfortunately. But I did. And I want to share that with other people.”
In late 2019, the singer teased a new single called Xanax by then posting a video of clips from her life and career.
“[This video is about] Family, love, the process of moving forward and letting go of the past,” she wrote the video.
“To live and be happy, free of fear. Just to be grateful and open our eyes to our opportunities instead of numbing the mind.”
While we’re not 100% sure if the new single is in fact called Xanax, we’re more hopeful that it is a sophisticated upgrade of Rumours because if you haven’t listened to it lately, you really should.
