Once referred to as the ‘world’s best croissant’ by the New York Times, the Lune pastries by founder and aerospace engineer Kate Reid, have earned global attention and have locals and visitors to Melbourne lining the block every single day to nibble on one of the 20,000 croissants crafted each week.
After much anticipation, Reid finally announced Lune was coming to Sydney back in 2020, but it’s three years later and we’re still waiting for the arrival of the buttery, flaky, half-moon pastries.
Luckily for Sydney, Reid has made up for the delay by announcing two stores, opening in 2024. The first will debut on Oxford Street, Darlinghurst in early 2024, and the second outpost will be located in the Sydney Metro Martin Place Precinct.
“We had a second store in the works to open about six or seven months after the main production store in Darlinghurst,” Reid told Broadsheet. “But because of the hold-up with getting heritage approval on certain aspects of our design, [Darlinghurst was] delayed. But, by this time next year, Sydney will have two Lunes, not one.”
Stay tuned for an opening date.
