It’s an unspoken rule: John Carasig’s name must be mentioned every single year during the relay challenge. He’s best known for causing chaos during season 7 of MasterChef Australia, when he decided to whip up a white chocolate velouté to pair with mussels. Yes, you read that right.
After his team agreed on cooking mussels in coconut and tomato broth, Carasig thought it would be a great idea to go completely against the brief and do whatever he wanted instead.
Safe to say, it was not well received by viewers at the time. Now, he’s back to redeem himself on MasterChef Australia: Fans & Favourites, but whether anyone would want him on their team during the relay is yet to be seen.
Migrating from the Philippines to Melbourne when he was just 10 years old, Carasig’s love of food came about while taking care of his three younger siblings. With busy, working parents, he would help prepare family meals, and soon started experimenting in the kitchen on his own.
After his MasterChef Australia journey came to an end, Carasig started Adobo Kitchen Bean To Bar Chocolates, which will soon relaunch as TSOKOLATE.
When he isn’t competing on reality shows and cooking up a storm, he works in the travel industry as a flight attendant.
His endeavours don’t stop there. Carasig, along with his partner Dave, started Human Hair Wigs By Dave during the pandemic, creating custom made human hair wigs for dancers, Drag Queens, cancer patients and those dealing with alopecia.
In his spare time, he also sews outfits for Dave, who works as a Drag Queen.
Does he have what it takes to win MasterChef Australia: Fans & Favourites? We’re just going to have to wait and see, but let’s hope history doesn’t repeat itself.
