After years of construction, The Ritz-Carlton Melbourne finally has an opening date: late March 2023. Ahead of the launch, the luxury hotel group has shared a few details on what’s to come.
For starters, guests won’t be checking in at a ground floor lobby — they’ll be whisked to the 80th floor via a high-speed elevator. There, they’ll be greeted with views of the Yarra River, Marvel Stadium and the city skyline as they collect their key to one of the hotel’s 257 rooms and suites.
Also on the 80th floor is the hotel’s opulent restaurant Atria, helmed by Executive Chef Michael Greenlaw, who’s spent over 15 years in five-star hotels and Michelin-starred restaurants – Melbourne’s Vue de Monde included.
Set in a dining room with a 1920 Victorian art deco aesthetic, Greenlaw’s menu highlights local and native produce, sourced from small-scale growers and artisan producers. Think Oak Hill Truffle from the Central Highlands, mussels from Mount Martha and Blackmore Wagyu from the High Country of Victoria.

“Our vision for Atria and the dining experience at The Ritz-Carlton Melbourne is driven by a quest for the unusual, the hard to find and the hyper-seasonal,” Greenlaw says via Delicious.
“It’s this quest that shapes the way we source our produce, informs our menus and inspires the culinary experiences we create for diners. We want Melburnians as well as guests to adopt Atria as their own.”
The restaurant will neighbour the hotel’s cocktail bar Cameo, which will showcase exceptional spirits, rare vintages and, thanks to its top-notch bartenders, the art of mixology. The bar’s piece de resistance will be a 90-metre bar made of Victorian Ash, set beneath a chandelier by local artist Flaming Beacon.
Finally, level 64 will house The Ritz-Carlton Spa, home to six treatment rooms, including a dedicated couple’s suite, a sauna, steam room, vitality pools and yoga space. Before or after a treatment, guests can hop in the infinity pool and tread heated water as they take in the floor-to-ceiling views across the city.
The Ritz-Carlton Melbourne is a short stroll from the Yarra River, The National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, and a 20-minute drive from St. Kilda. Reservations for the hotel and Atria restaurant are now open.
