The Best Accommodation in Robe
With a population of just 1,500 or so, the town of Robe is a quaint little getaway that somehow manages to accommodate 15,000 tourists and seasonal workers during its high season.
As such, the town is dotted with motels, tourist parks, and other self-contained or camping options. However, here we’re going to dish on the more upmarket stays that Robe has to offer.
First up is Robe House, the most historic site in the area. Robe House was the first building to be constructed in Robe, way back in 1847. Originally the governor’s house, Robe House is of quarried sandstone heritage design with high, vaulted ceilings. It has five apartments to choose from, each with access to the wide verandah, cottage garden, and self-contained kitchens where breakfast supplies are provided. Truly a classic Robe accommodation option.
Robe Terraces is another historic stay that showcases the rich history of the region. Set into the hillside, these heritage Victorian houses have been lovingly restored by their owner, architect Tim Rogers. Just 100 metres from the beach, they open onto historic Smillie Street in the heart of the old town and each apartment is themed in a distinct artistic style.
Slightly further afield you have the coastal living dream getaway of Wrights Bay House. A 10-minute drive north of the town of Robe, the house sits on 10 acres with sweeping views of Wrights bay and can accommodate nine people across its four bedrooms. Perfect for a family or group holiday, Wrights Bay House comes with its own private beach and is ideally located near the region’s wineries and breweries.
As if you couldn’t get closer to the beach, the accommodation options at San Danci are just 80 steps from the water. The Villa San Danci and the San Danci apartment are great options for an ocean escape while being more centrally located than the above. Newly renovated, the San Danci homes are modern, light, and airy with views of the beach that are entirely self-contained.
