This Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber Mashup Is a Depressing Tune

This week, Selena Gomez landed her very first Billboard Hot 100 #1, with her new breakup anthem “Lose You To Love Me”.

The song, which is a certified tune, is all about Selena’s process of healing from her very toxic, on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber. RIP Jelena.

He used to release music but now he mostly hangs out with his wife, Hailey Bieber (nee Baldwin) and their collection of pets while letting loose on Instagram.

A talented genius and music producer named Andy Wu took one of Bieber’s hits, “Sorry” from his 2015 album Purpose, and Selena’s latest single, and created a very cool mashup duet.

The resulting song slaps, no doubt about that, but it’s also, ah… kind of a huge bummer if you listen to the lyrics. Using both Selena and Justin’s version of their relationship, the end product is kind of like if a real life couple who had broken up collaborated on a song about their relationship. sad!

Given the toxicity of their relationship, it’s also bit reminiscent of Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love The Way You Lie” collaborations, which featured on Revival and Loud, and detailed a violently abusive relationship.

While this mashup obviously doesn’t reach that level of depressing, it certainly shows that their relationship was harmful and damaging for both of them, and cements the knowledge that it’s good that #Jelena is over, for both artists.

Since its release last week, the song has amassed 1.1 million views on YouTube, and fans of the former couple are absolutely loving it.

“This mashup is like their last conversation,” one user wrote, while another added: “It feels like I am hearing both sides of the story at the same time.”

Hopefully this mashup signifies the end of the #Jelena era, and we can all move on from here.
