When SXSW Sydney hits the city this October, guests will need to grab ‘badges’ with ranging levels of access to experience it. But today, the festival has announced day passes for one of their expos, with early bird rates starting at $35.
Now on sale, day passes to SXSW Sydney’s Tech and Innovation Expo will see you getting a glimpse into the future of tech. You’ll discover the next big things in Australia, hear from some of the most promising startups and immerse yourself in the tech of tomorrow.
The expo will run from Wednesday, October 18 to Saturday, October 21 at the ICC Sydney in Darling Harbour, with networking opportunities, meet-and-greets, talks, product demonstrations, and interactive installations.
The expo will house activation spaces and hubs, including a Discovery State that’ll bring together brands to discuss tech and innovation, The Hub, a central space to connect and network with attendees through meet-ups, demonstrations and tech talks, and the Startup Village, a space for emerging brands to showcase their product to industry experts and potential investors.
An XR Showcase at the expo will be an immersive and interactive experience that combines virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) to create a captivating and engaging environment.
Notable exhibitions include Qantas’ unveiling of the future Airbus A350-1000 cabin, known as Project Sunrise, Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) offering a peek at an air Speeder flying race car simulator and Black Magic Design sharing their cameras and software for the film and TV industry.
SXSW, aka South By Southwest, has been running in Austin, Texas every March since 1987. This year, for the first time ever, it’ll be on in both Austin and, in October, Sydney. The festival will take over the Harbour City from Sunday, October 15 to Sunday, October 22, with over 1,000 events, from activations and talks to film screenings, parties, and concerts.
Back in June 2022, when SXSW Sydney was announced, Colin Daniels, Managing Director of SXSW Sydney, said it comprise creators, innovators, and performers.
“Focusing on the creator industries in the Asia Pacific region, SXSW Sydney will celebrate what’s next in culture, tech and the regions thriving creative economy,” Daniels said.
Event producer for SXSW Sydney Geoff Jones added that “SXSW is the Olympics of events for the creator industries”.
“Locally, it will increase visitation and bolster the creative economy,” he said. “Within APAC, it will facilitate a special connection between creative industries and businesses in the region – the kind that can lead to collaboration and innovation on a global scale. I can’t wait to see the opportunities flow on from October this year.”
