The Sydney Comedy Festival is back in 2022 and will be sure to have us clutching our sides with over 210 of the very best international, Australian, and local comedians set to take to stages across the city.
That’s right, after pandemic-induced restrictions have meant that recent years have had to go without standups from around the globe, an impressive array of international acts will descend upon Sydney once more. Included in the lineup are David O’Doherty (IRE), Jason Byrne (IRE), Mark Watson (UK), Stephen K Amos (UK), Melanie Bracewell (NZ), The Dollop (USA), Larry Dean (SCO), Jason Leong (MYS) and Nemr (LBN).
There will be no shortage of local laugh inducers either, with Judith Lucy & Denise Scott, Wil Anderson, Aunty Donna, Aaron Chen, Becky Lucas, Luke Heggie, Steen Raskopoulos, Karen From Finance and Rhys Nicholson all putting on hilarious new shows over the course of the festival.
With the federal election inching closer, what better time to check out The Chaser’s Charles Firth, The Shovel’s James Schloeffel and ABC’s Mark Humphries in SPIN – ELECTION 2022 which will provide audiences with a masterclass in the ancient art of lying.
Meanwhile, Elouise Eftos and Ruby Teys bring brand new variety show Mystery Flight to the festival, while TikTok star Samantha Andrews presents No Hat No Play! The Cabaret. Hit shows returning to the festival in 2022 include Manbo (Sam Dugmore – Sydney Comedy Festival’s 2021 Best Newcomer) and Schapelle Schapelle – The Musical.
Additionally, Australia’s favourite scientist Dr Karl is presenting The Steam Room: A Night of Science Comedy, and TikTok comedy sensation and songwriter for Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical Gabbi Bolt makes her solo festival debut.
Venues for the festival include The Enmore Theatre, Factory Theatre, The Comedy Store and the Sydney Opera House, among others.
“If ever the world needed a laugh, it is amid these turbulent, pandemic-ridden, torrential-rain-flooded, Molotov-cocktail-recipe-sharing times in which we live,” said Festival Director Jorge Menidis in a statement.
“So good people of Sydney, we will bring it and you should do everything you can to lap it up.”
