Elon Musk, what a mess. If I were to list every controversy that he’s ever starred in, then this piece would need a litany of trigger warnings.
What’s more, Elon Musk has recently become Twitter’s new CEO. In October of 2022, he bought the company for $44 billion USD and has made tonnes of changes.
These changes include:
- Firing around 80% of Twitter’s staff
- Charging $19.00 per month for a blue tick
- Removing key moderation features
However, none of these changes have been embraced by the internet. In fact, they have all been roasted, and Elon Musk’s been thrown on the spit.
Additionally, to add insult to injury, Elon Musk asked the following question in a 2022 Twitter poll:
“Should I step down as head of Twitter?”
And the results were damning. A solid 57.5% voted that he should retire. Over 17,000,000 users voted in this poll.
Which brings us to May 12 of 2023. ‘Cause on this date, Elon Musk said that he’s quitting as Twitter’s new CEO. That’s right, this dude has found a replacement.
As Elon Musk tweeted, “Excited to announce that I’ve hired a new CEO… She will be starting in six weeks!”
So, who is this mystery woman? Well, according to The Wall Street Journal, it might be Linda Yaccarino. While it’s not a done deal, she’s currently in talks with Twitter about taking on the role.
Linda Yaccarino is currently the Chairman of Global Advertising for NBCUniversal Media. She’s also spent over a decade in the marketing biz, helping companies grow from ad revenue.
According to Lou Paskalis, an ex-marketing exec from Bank of America, Linda Yaccarino “has a unique interest in Twitter.”
“She sees opportunity there,” said Paskalis. “Twitter is probably selling advertising at significant discounts in exchange for volume commitments.”
However, as it stands, Elon Musk is still going to be an integral actor in Twitter. As per his announcement, he will become their Chief Technology Officer. This means that he’ll be able to direct how Twitter’s products and software get changed.
