If you were to channel surf past one of the most popular reality shows — I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! — you might assume that it’s filmed on an Aussie soundstage. You might assume that the celebrities who signed up are being coddled. You may even think that after a day’s work, these people go back to their North Shore homes. However, nothing could be further from the truth.
On I’m a Celebrity, each contestant lives in a jungle-like environment for up to three weeks. Not only do these celebrities have limited comforts, they also have to compete for meals and other resources. They can only exit the jungle by getting voted off, saying the famous words “I’m a celebrity get me out of here”, or winning. Each winner of this series gets to give $100,000 to the charity of their choice.
Traditionally, Australia’s version of I’m a Celebrity has been filmed overseas in Kruger National Park, South Africa. This has been the case for seven of the nine current seasons. It was only in 2021 and 2022 that I’m a Celebrity was filmed locally. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, seasons 7 and 8 took place in Dungay, NSW.
So, will I’m a Celebrity return to South Africa for its 2024 season? Or have the comforts of a soundstage seduced this production? Here’s everything that we know.
I’m a Celebrity 2024: Where Was It Filmed?
Like in 2023, I’m a Celebrity Australia is returning to Kruger National Park, South Africa. According to the architects of this series, Kruger National Park was chosen because its environment is more harsh and unforgiving than most parts of Australia. They also want to create bigger and tougher challenges than other survival shows have pulled off.

Kruger National Park is over 19,000 square kilometres large and is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including elephants, lions, rhinos, leopards, and buffalo. Whether 2024’s I’m a Celebrity contestants will meet such animals remains to be seen.
