From an app that’ll help you reach your health, fitness and weight goals, with a calorie calculator and food tracker, to another that’ll turn your phone into a minimalist device so you can reduce your screen time and better your mental health, ahead are some of the best apps out there to help you become the healthiest and happiest versions of yourself in 2024.
Note that all the apps listed have free versions, though, if you’d like to unlock all their features and use them to their full potential, you’ll need to pay for premium.
MyFitnessPal
Studies have shown that people who keep a food diary are more likely to hit their nutrition goals, and MyFitnessPal aims to help do that. The app lets easily note your food, fitness and fasting, even letting you scan barcodes on some food packets so the app can collect its nutrition data. The app then gives you personalised nutrition insights so you can make smarter choices. It recently added functionality to let you track sleep quality too, particularly in terms of how it relates to your nutrition.
Minimalist Phone
Currently only available on Android, the Minimalist Phone app lets you change your phone’s interface to a minimalist design. The idea is that this will help you use your phone in a more mindful way, reducing your screen time and reducing your brain’s dopamine addition. As a bonus, the app’s interface also extends its battery life.
Headspace
Headspace is one of the world’s most known meditation apps, with the brand even collaborating on a series with Netflix. The app has a library of meditations, yoga and fitness classes and focus music. You can also use Headspace to learn more about your mind, with courses like Managing Anxiety, Mindful Eating and Patience.
Skillshare
Skillshare is a learning app with thousands of creative classes, ranging from beginner to pro, and in topics like drawing, animation and creative writing. Users can take the online class, create projects or even teach a class themselves. If you aren’t sure which class you want to take, you can fill out a quiz that’ll present you with some options.
Insight Timer
Insight Timer targets sleep, anxiety and stress, with thousands of guided meditations, courses and music playlists. The app also lets you tap into the power of your breath by offering a range of breathwork techniques led by certified teachers.
AllTrails
If you’re keen to get outside more next year, whether it’s to walk or run, download app AllTrails, voted Apple’s 2023 iPhone App of the Year, The world’s largest outdoor platform, the app lets you find trails near you or in new locations, with an interactive map and detailed information on each trail, including its current conditions and photos and reviews by other app users.
