North Queensland’s accommodation scene is getting a major glow-up later this year when its first-ever luxury hotel opens in Townsville. Called Ardo, the hotel is part of a $88 million development that’ll include also include a day spa, rooftop deck with views of the Coral Sea and Magnetic Island.
“We know that North Queensland has so much to offer as a destination, so there is a huge demand for domestic and international visitors to travel here,” says Chris Morris, the Founder and Executive Chairman of Morris Group, the family-owned hospitality group undertaking the project. The group is behind Orpheus Island Lodge, Mt Mulligan Lodge and Beechmont Estate.
“But what we’ve discovered is there is still a gap in the market for luxury accommodation, so what we’re doing with Ardo is building on what we already do so well, providing another opportunity for high-end experiences in this very special part of the world.”
Ardo will have 132 rooms and suites, most of which enjoy sea views. The suites are all positioned on the corners of the hotel and feature balconies. Eight of the rooms are equipped with baths on the balconies that face the Coral Sea and Maggie Island.
Dining-wise, guests can choose from rooftop restaurant Marmour, inspired by the region’s world-class meat and seafood with a focus on contemporary Australian, or Japanese restaurant Terasu, located on the ground floor.
Morris Group’s other, already-opened Townsville resort, The Ville, sits alongside Ardo, and Ardo guests will be able to use The Ville precinct’s amenities. These include a pool with swim-up bar, gym, and casino.
“While The Ville provides relaxed, tropical surroundings and casual sophistication, Ardo will offer a luxury accommodation experience for travellers seeking a more high-end stay,” says Morris. “With Ardo joining The Villa, and the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre on the Breakwater, what we’ve created will enhance the precinct, and become the region’s leisure and entertainment hub.”
Ardo is set to open later this year.
