Father’s Day is quickly approaching, so that means it’s time to figure out exactly what gift you’re buying for your dad this year. In my opinion, dads are the hardest people to shop for. Mine personally takes an Ariana Grande approach to shopping for himself, and by that, I mean anything he sees, he likes or wants, he immediately buys for himself. So, when birthdays, Christmas and Father’s Day roll around again, I’m left stumped. Every. Single. Time.
This year, I won’t physically be spending time with my dad on Father’s Day, so I’m falling back on the types of presents I know he’ll enjoy sharing with Mum and will make it clear that I put in the effort.
Enter: hampers. My dad loves discovering a new tipple he hasn’t tried before, so I’ll be heading down either the wine or whisky hamper route. Below, I’ve compiled a list of gift hampers (both boozy and dry) that any dad will be chuffed to receive this Father’s Day.
Good Pair Days, from $60
Good Pair Days is a wine box subscription service that creates bespoke wine boxes to your own specific tastes and preferences. For Father’s Day, they’ve pulled together plenty of one-off box options (each with three bottles) that dad will love, like the wine, whisky and hot sauce box for $98 and a port and wine box for $88. In addition to their usual combos that stock everything from natural wine to winter warming reds, you’ll definitely find something to suit your wine-loving dad.
Socks and Old Fashioned Gift Set, $154
If you can’t be with your dad this year like you’d hoped, then shouting them a drink is a thoughtful way to treat them for Father’s Day. The Socks and Old Fashioned Gift Set is $154, so it’s a great gift to split with your siblings to make sure dad gets his yearly stock-up of socks and a 10-serve bottle of the classic Old Fashioned cocktail, too.
Father’s Day Dozen Brewquet, $90
For dads who are constantly trying the newest craft brews to hit the local bottle shop, the Father’s Day Dozen Brewquet is ideal. Stocked with beers from Australia- and New Zealand-based breweries like White Bay Brew Co, KAIJU! and Garage Project, you’ll not only be stocking up dad’s drinks fridge but also helping them find their new favourite beer (and conveniently, their favourite child too).
Good Day People Brunchin’ Betty, $75
Cooking brunch for dad on Father’s Day is a classic, but this year they’ll be fending for themselves. To help them along with whipping up something delicious — and foolproof — the Good Day People Brunchin’ Betty Hamper has everything dad will need to whip up a pancake stack, slathered in Pepe Saya passionfruit curd and salted caramel, with a couple of cold brew coffee cans to go with it.
Best of Byron Gift Set, from $99
The Best of Byron Gift Set is one for foodie dads, combining the best snacks of the northern NSW town. The hamper starts at $99 and includes bites like saltbush macadamia nuts, dark chocolate-covered macadamias, milk choc chunk Byron Bay cookies and crackers. If you want to bulk out the box, even more, there are plenty of extras you can simply add, like tea sets, bottles of wine and additional snacks.
Tasmanian Cheese Hamper, $69
The Tasmanian Cheese Hamper has everything you need to make a simple and delicious cheese board, which means once dad receives it, he’ll just have to toss it onto a platter for a well-rounded grazing platter. Specifically, the hamper is stocked with cheddar and camembert by Wicked Cheese and a semi-hard rind from Bay of Fires, plus pickled onions, figs in Madeira and Tasman Sea salt lavosh.
Local Pantry Co. Custom Hampers, price varies
To ensure dad loves every single thing in their hamper, you’ll want to create a custom gift box with Local Pantry Co. The process is simple: once you’re done filling your cart with as many goodies as you want (think artisan relishes, lavosh bread and homely cookbooks), add “Make me a Hamper — Custom Gift Box” ($15). Next, they’ll package it all up and ship it straight to dad’s door. Local Pantry Co also sells a range of pre-made hampers and our favourites are the Dad’s Snacks ($40) and the Chocolate Box ($39).
Single Malt Scottish Whisky Tasting Pack, $79
My dad is a huge whisky fan and the only thing I know about his specific tastes is that it has to be Scottish whisky or nothing. That’s exactly why I’m buying my dad the Single Malt Scottish Whisky Tasting Pack from Whisky Loot because even if he’s tried all three options, I already know I’ll be receiving a phone call to hear about the merits of each tipple and let’s be honest, he’ll get a kick out of me taking an interest in something he loves so much. This year, Whisky Loot has also introduced a “Drinks With Dad” offer, where you can buy two matching sets and ship them to two different addresses so you and do the tasting together, even from afar.
