Oh my god, we’re totally buggin’! Cult classic film Clueless, turns 25 this year and honestly, where did that time go?
If you grew up in the ’90s, then you were one of the many students who watched the hit 1995 film on a VCR as a companion to the classic Jane Austen novel, Emma.
The adaptation saw shallow, rich and socially successful Cher (Alicia Silverstone), a student at the top of her Beverly Hills high school’s pecking order. Seeing herself as a matchmaker, Cher coaxes two teachers into dating each other and emboldened by her success, she decides to give hopelessly klutzy new student Tai (Brittany Murphy) a makeover. But, when Tai becomes more popular than she is, Cher realises that her disapproving ex-stepbrother (Paul Rudd) was right about how misguided she was — and falls for him.
The success of the film also firmly cemented some of Hollywood’s rising stars as A-Listers and most of them still have very successful careers to this day.
We take a look at the cast of Clueless and see where they are now.
Alicia Silverstone (Cher Horowitz)
She may have played the ditzy, misguided and ever-so-popular Cher Horowitz, but Alicia Silverstone, now 43, is nothing like her famous character.
After starring in Clueless and 1997’s Batman and Robin, Silverstone became a published author with veganism book The Kind Diet and The Kind Mama and works as an animal rights activist.
She most recently starred in Paramount’s 1960s series American Woman and has just played the role of Kristy Thomas’ mum in The Baby-Sitters Club on Netflix and “older Julie” in Valley Girl.
She has one son named Bear Blu Jarecki, eight.
Paul Rudd (Josh Lucas)
Arguably the most famous export from the Clueless film, Paul Rudd, 51, has seen great success since he played Cher’s step-brother Josh.
Since then, Rudd has had major success in films like Anchorman, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, This is 40, Knocked Up and Forgetting Sarah Marshall and a recurring role in Friends as Phoebe Buffay’s husband Mike Hannigan.
Most recently, Rudd played AntMan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Netflix series Living With Yourself and Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
While he clearly knows the secret to a successful career, he won’t reveal the actual thing we really want to know. Why does he still look like he’s 30?!
Rudd is married to Julie Yaeger and they have two children Jack, 14 and Darby, 10.
Stacey Dash (Dionne)
Stacey Dash, 53, played Cher’s best friend Dionne who was known for her fab style, her boyfriend Murray (Donald Faison), having her driver’s licence and her ability to drive on the freeway.
Since the 1995 film, Dash has had a colourful career inside and outside of Hollywood.
The actor went on to reprise her role in the TV adaption of Clueless and then starred in The Game, before becoming a Fox News contributor — which she reportedly was fired from.
In 2018, she revealed that she was running for Congress in the state of California, however, later withdrew her candidacy.
In 2019, Dash pled not guilty to a misdemeanour charge of domestic battery.
She has been married four times and has two children.
Brittany Murphy (Tai Fraser)
Brittany Murphy’s turn as Tai catapulted her into stardom. Playing a transfer student who ultimately becomes Cher’s project, Tai’s most famous scenes saw her singing Rollin’ with my Homies and the Mentos theme song. But her best line? “You’re a virgin who can’t drive!” Ouch.
Murphy had great success in films such as Happy Feet, Sin City, 8 Mile and Uptown Girls and voiced Luanne Platter in King of the Hill.
In 2007, she married English screenwriter, film director and film producer Simon Monjack, then, tragically in 2009, the actor died from pneumonia, anemia and drug intoxication. She was just 32 years old.
Donald Faison (Murray)
Donald Faison, 45, played Murray, boyfriend of Dionne and a typical party boy.
After Clueless, Faison also appeared in the spin-off series, before becoming a major household name for his role as Dr. Christopher Turk in Scrubs.
Since then, Faison has appeared in House of Lies, Robot Chicken, SuperMansion, Drunk History and most recently Emergence.
But it’s his bromance with Scrubs co-star Zach Braff that we love most. Honestly, check out their banter on Instagram. It’s great.
Faison is married to CaCee Cobb and has six children, four from previous relationships and two with his current wife.
Breckin Meyer (Travis)
Breckin Meyer played a ‘pothead’ (hate that term, but it was the ’90s), skateboarding love interest of Tai.
Since Clueless, the 45-year-old actor has starred in Can’t Hardly Wait, Road Trip, Rat Race, Robot Chicken, King of the Hill, Designated Survivor, Go and The Fix.
He has two children, Clover and Caitlin, 16.
Jeremy Sisto (Elton)
Jeremy Sisto, 45, played bad boy Elton, who pretended to like Tai, to get to Cher.
Since Clueless, Sisto had recurring roles in HBO’s Six Feet Under and Law & Order as well as the lead in Suburgatory.
Sisto has been married twice and has two children, Charlie, 10 and Bastian, eight.
Elisa Donovan (Amber)
Elisa Donovan, 49, played Cher’s nemesis, the spoilt Amber in Clueless.
While the film remained her most well-known role, she also reprised the character in the TV spin-off.
Donovan had roles in Night at the Roxbury and Sabrina the Teenage Witch and had a lead role in In Gayle We Trust.
Donovan is now a producer and is married with a daughter, Scarlett, eight.
