It’s estimated Melbourne had roughly 138 co-working spaces in 2022. And post-COVID, with many businesses on hybrid office models and so not needing permanent office space, the number of Melbourne co-working spaces is only continuing to rise.
While most are around the CBD, there are also a handful scattered in surrounding suburbs. From spaces with podcast and photo studios, to others, that’ll see you working poolside, ahead, we share some of the coolest.
WeWork
WeWork has four properties in Melbourne, on Exhibition Street, Elizabeth Street, Spencer Street, and William Street. Many of the locations are dog-friendly and are equipped with espresso bars and outdoor spaces. On offer are private offices, dedicated desks, and hot desks, which also give you access to lounges and phone booths.
The Commons
The Commons has six locations in Melbourne: In the CBD, Cremorne, South Melbourne, South Yarra, and two in Collingwood. Each location offers private offices, dedicated desks, and open desks. Members across all its sites have access to 112 meeting rooms, 10 event spaces, seven podcast studios, and three photography studios. Its key point of difference is beautiful, environmentally-conscious interiors.
Lyf Collingwood Melbourne
Lyf Collingwood Melbourne is more than just a co-working space, it’s a hotel, too, with 128 studio rooms, a washer and dryer room, and a shared kitchen. Get work done or network in the ‘Connect’ room. Or, if you’re looking for more privacy, book a ‘Collab and White’ room for yourself, a small team, or external clients.
United Co
United Co in Fitzroy prides itself on its amenities that help you look after your physical and mental health. All its members get access to its gym and yoga studio, quiet rooms that can be used for meditation or reflection, and a café for casual meetings with team members or external clients. The space offers day passes and part-time or full-time memberships.
Third Place
Third Place makes use of cafés, restaurants, bars, and hotels that would’ve otherwise been empty during the day or barely used at night. Choose from starter, casual, regular, or employee reloadable passes, and then book your space. Melbourne locations include the rooftop at Richmond Club Hotel, a table at The Pantry Melbourne, or a room at QT Hotels Melbourne.
The Hive
The Hive has three locations in Melbourne – The Cluster in the CBD, The Hive Milton House in St Kilda, and The Hive Collingwood in Collingwood. What’s more, a fourth spaxe is set to open in August 2023.
Like the brand’s other spaces, The Hive Abbotsford will offer privates, hot desks, dedicated desks, and meeting rooms. The space will also feature a podcast studio, photo studio, and event spaces. And you can feel good while you work here – the building was designed to conserve energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and it uses around 50% less potable water.
Space and Co
Space and Co has eight Melbourne locations, all close to public transport and plenty of restaurants, cafés and bars. The caters to businesses of all sizes and working individuals with all types of needs, giving them bespoke solutions. Its facilities feature showers, bike storage and 24/7 access.
