Keen to know how you can see Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters, J Balvin and H.E.R. in concert in the same place, at the same time?
Thanks to Global Citizen you can do just that with the international advocacy organisation announcing that its latest venture will be VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World in an effort to inspire vaccine confidence worldwide.
Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been announced as Campaign Chairs for the event with a lineup that now includes Ben Affleck, Chrissy Teigen, David Letterman, Gayle King, Jimmy Kimmel, Nomzamo Mbatha, Olivia Munn, & Sean Penn.
President Joe Biden, First Lady Dr Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will also make a featured appearance.
The concert will also work to ensure that everyone is able to access the gift of the jab, no matter where they are. During the special, Global Citizen, will call on philanthropists and corporations to donate enough “dollars-for-doses” to vaccinate more than 27 million health workers, that are serving on the global frontlines, in the world’s poorest countries.
The huge event will be hosted by Gomez who said in a statement “I’m honoured to be hosting VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World.
“This is a historic moment to encourage people around the world to take the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available to them, call on world leaders to share vaccine doses equitably and to bring people together for a night of music in a way that hasn’t felt possible in the past year. I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
The concert is obviously very timely as debate rages around the world about the efficacy, legitimacy and safety of the various vaccinations available. These conversations have been made more complicated by the reports of recipients developing potentially fatal blood clots after receiving Johnson and Johnson and AstraZeneca doses of the vaccine.
To that end, Global Citizen is also launching #VAXBECAUSE, to “drive candid conversations about the COVID-19 pandemic, provide people with ranging perspectives about vaccine confidence, and arm people with facts about personal health and immunization options.” #VAXBECAUSE will also encourage people around the world to share why they will get, are getting, or have gotten the vaccine. Meanwhile, the star-studded concert — which will be will be pre-taped at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles — will be available for Aussies to watch on Global Citizen’s YouTube Channel at 10 am AEST on Sunday 9th May.
VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World is part of Global Citizen’s overall 2021 Recovery Plan for the World — a year-long campaign and series of events that aims to help end COVID-19 for all, end the hunger crisis, resume learning everywhere, protect the planet, and advance equity for all.
