Portable pizza ovens have changed the home-cooked pizza game forever. These convenient, handy little appliances fit on balconies, in backyards, on patios, and just about anywhere. Many people take them camping, as they’re not just for cooking pizza. I’ve popped a salmon in mine and cooked a beautiful soy-glazed salmon on a cedar plank for that extra infusion of flavour.
Gozney is a leading brand in the portable pizza oven space. Last year, the coveted, Gozney Dome landed on Australian shores and caused a frenzy. There was a waiting list the length of the Harbour Bridge (not really, but you get the gist). Chefs, home cooks, and everyone in between aced online to get their hands on it. Previously, Australians could only get the Roccbox, the smaller, more portable pizza oven.
However, the Dome is the one everyone wants. It had a special mention in Time Best Inventions Awards 2021 and is a favourite among the world’s top chefs, including Michelin-star Chef Tom Aikens, who said: “The outdoor oven to make all your mates jealous” and Vito Lacopelli, an international award-winning maestro pizzaiolo who claimed the Dome is: “the pizza oven of the future.”
Even though they’ve perfected the pizza oven, Gozney has always claimed to do better, and they’ve done just that with the latest release, the Dome S1.
Think of it as a more streamlined version of the award-winning Dome, and much to customer’s delight, it’s much more affordable.
What’s New in the Gozney Dome S1
Expertly designed down to the last detail, the Dome S1 features an extra wide mouth, a new large 22” x 18” removable stone floor, a built-in digital thermometer, a new low-profile dock and a single quick start rolling gas flame so you can experience the joy of high-temperature cooking with the turn of a dial.
“We have been blown away by the response to the Dome, with it seeming to capture the hearts (and stomachs) of chefs, home cooks and design enthusiasts alike. Our new streamlined, gas-only version allows pizza lovers of any level to experience the Dome’s unparalleled performance and convenience for less,” said Tom Gozney, Founder of Gozney.
“Our mission is to continue to change the way the world cooks outdoors, and we are really excited to be adding to our line-up of award-winning ovens.”
Design
Introducing the Dome S1—the ultimate backyard showstopper. This next-gen pizza oven doesn’t just bake pies; it’s a stunning blend of opposites. It marries beauty with utility, old with new, and minimalism with maximalism, all in one sleek package.
Drawing inspiration from Dome’s iconic aesthetic, the Dome S1 sports that same signature shape but with a high-temperature painted shell that’s not just eye candy—it’s built to withstand the elements, come rain or shine. UV stable and water-resistant, it’s got your oven covered year-round. Plus, there’s a new low-profile dock that gives it an even more streamlined look.
Crafted with top-tier materials, the Dome S1 mirrors the proportions of a traditional Neapolitan oven, just like its Dome sibling, drawing on Gozney’s commercial range for inspiration. What’s more, they’ve future-proofed this version with a removable stone floor, extending its lifespan.
And here’s the best part: it’s 10kg lighter than the original Dome, making it a breeze to unbox and position. So, if you want a pizza oven that’s as stunning as it is functional, the Dome S1 is your ideal backyard companion.
Performance
With the Dome S1, you’re getting the same incredible heat retention and cooking prowess found in Gozney’s commercial ovens right in your own backyard. It’s like having a little slice of pizza heaven on your patio.
Equipped with a digital thermometer and a generous 30mm stone floor, this oven gives you absolute control over the scorching heat. Thanks to the quick start rolling gas flame, the Dome S1 effortlessly reaches scorching temperatures of up to 500 degrees and stays there, ensuring you can churn out one mouthwatering pizza after another in just 60 seconds.
And when it comes to pizza variety, this oven has you covered. With a spacious 22” x 18” stone floor and an extra-wide oven mouth measuring 16.1” x 5.1”, you can create and slide in pizzas of all shapes and sizes, from the classic Neapolitan to Roman and even Detroit styles, all the way up to a generous 16 inches. It’s pizza perfection made easy.
Cost
The Gozney Dome S1 will set you back $1,999, as opposed to its predecessor, which will set you back $2,499 for the dual fuel option.
