‘Grease’ Is The Word — And Now There’s a TV Series Featuring the ‘Pink Ladies’

Grease

The 1978 film Grease has been a steady and popular part of pop culture since John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John brought Danny Rizzo and Sandy Olsson to life.

And in what seems like something that should have happened decades ago, a new TV series is in the works, featuring the “Pink Ladies”.

According to Variety, who first reported on the news, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is being produced by Paramount Plus — the ViacomCBS streaming platform — in the US. Luckily, Network Ten is a subsidiary of CBS, which means we could be getting the series as soon as it launches.

A year ago, Variety reported that HBO Max had a straight-to-series order for Grease: Rydell High, a spin-off of the original series. It was meant to be set in and around the world of Rydell High, the school in which the characters infamously attended.

The original series, which was going to be set in the 1950s, was going to reimagine the movie with some familiar characters, as well as a host of new ones and also included the all-important musical numbers.

Rise of the Pink Ladies will still have the same vibe and is an hour-long musical comedy about how the infamous Pink Ladies came to be. There will be a new group of young actors presumably playing Rizzo (Stockard Channing), Jan (Jamie Donnelly), Marty (Dinah Manoff) and Frenchie (Didi Conn) and it may even include the unwelcomed addition of Sandy.

Being a musical, it will feature some new songs, although there had better be a rendition of Tell Me More or is it really a Grease TV Show?

When the HBO version was announced, it was revealed that the estate of the original lyricist and songwriters, Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey — who penned Summer Loving and Greased Lightning, were withholding rights to the songs, however, it looks like deals are being worked out to be able to include them.

We are looking forward to telling you more, more, more, once more details come to light.
