There are some crazy trends going around on the internet, but which ones are worth the hype? What’s the Buzz is a column by lifestyle editor Sangeeta Kocharekar where she (along with our editorial team) will test out viral trends to tell you if it’s worth trying for yourself. Do we recommend doing it, and will we keep it up? Or is it a trend we’ll never want to hear of ever again? Find out here. This month, we try hair vitamins.

Promising to support hair growth and health, skin health and energy levels, JSHeatlh Hair + Energy Formula vitamins ($44.99) are among the most popular of their kind in Australia. Before and after pics showing incredible results are littered all over Instagram, and vitamin’s official shop page has 7163 reviews and counting.

But do they live up to the hype? Read on to find out.

JS Health vitamins

When Sangeeta asked me if I wanted to try the JSHealth Hair + Energy vitamins, I jumped at the chance. I have naturally thick hair but since bleaching it, it has become coarse, brittle and damaged. I’ve been on the hunt for a product that could revive my locks, and while hair treatments are important, I wanted to try tackling the issue from the inside.

I didn’t know what to expect. I had heard great reviews from friends and people on the internet, so I was excited to start taking them. The results on JSHealth’s Instagram page looked impressive, but whether or not they would work for my hair was something I found myself questioning.

It’s also important to note that I’m terrible at taking my vitamins, but because I was so desperate to get my hair back to its prime, I took these as directed — one a day with breakfast. I didn’t see much of a difference in the first week of taking them, which was expected. Vitamins take time, so you need to be patient!

But after the first month, I noticed my hair was looking glossier, the breakage was pretty much non-existent, and the fine baby hairs around my scalp grew so long that they looked like a front fringe.

I also bleached my hair while taking these (I know, naughty) and I found that my locks bounced back quicker compared to after my previous appointments.

My hair grows fairly quickly, but by the time it reaches a certain length, I’m due for a good chop. I usually have split and dry ends at that point, but since taking the JSHealth vitamins, I find my hair grows while still remaining healthy.

Would I recommend the JSHealth Hair and Energy vitamins? Absolutely. As long as you stay patient and take them regularly as instructed, then you’ll definitely see a huge improvement in your hair. And I say that in all honesty.

I have long seen JSHealth vitamin testimonials flying around Instagram, promising longer and healthier hair in record time (in fact, my hairdresser even recommended them to me personally), so I was excited to try them out.

I’ve been growing out a bob for over 12 months and am prone to breakage around my hairline due to some overzealous bleach sessions a couple of years ago, so I had high hopes but realistic expectations for the vitamins. While taking one JSHealth capsule per day over the course of three months, my hair grew significantly and it does also feel healthier than before — though it’s hard to say whether that’s due to the vitamins or if my hair has just finally pushed past that awkward post-bob length phase naturally.

I am still seeing the usual issues with my face-framing pieces of hair (they always break and never grow as long as the rest of my hair) and I don’t think the volume has been significantly increased. That said, I’m loving my hair sick and will probably keep taking the vitamins, even if only to feel like I have some semblance of control over my hair growth.

Like Bas and Ange, I too noticed JSHealth Hair and Energy vitamins all over Instagram. And the before and after photos always looked amazing. I wanted in. After years of bleaching my hair (I have brown-almost-black hair and once went as light as blonde), I’d finally stopped dyeing it and let it be its natural colour. I’d also cut down on using hot hair tools and simply air dried it. My hair was the longest and healthiest it had been in years, but I wanted it to grow even longer so it was a mane a la Kardashians.

I was pretty diligent with taking the vitamins — I actually liked the routine of popping the vitamin every morning. It made me feel like I was looking after myself — a self-care routine, if you will.

I’m nearing the end of my second bottle now and I have to say, it’s so hard to tell whether or not the vitamins have made a difference. My hair looks and feels different every time I wash it, depending on what shampoo and conditioner I use, how much build-up there is in my hair, what products I use afterward and the humidity in the air that day.

So, it’s been hard to pinpoint a change due to the vitamins. Though, I will say that generally speaking, my hair has felt thicker and glossier, which is noticeable in my before and after, and in the main image on this article (I’m far left).

Would I recommend the JSHealth’s Hair + Energy vitamins? Yes, because I think it’s always worth trying something to see if it works for you. I would also say it’s worth getting two bottles and waiting to see the results after that, rather than expecting to see a difference immediately.
