With the Easter holidays rapidly approaching and schools back in full swing, you’re probably already contemplating how best to fill the time with your little ones between school breaks.
Thankfully, cinemas around the country are back in action and, with all fingers and toes crossed, we’re likely to see full capacity theatres continue over the next few months and hopefully forevermore!

To help you plan your Easter break, we’ve put together this list of all the best films showing in April that your little ones will love. If you’ve got kids in the slightly older category, there are a few great-looking flicks too that are perfect for family outings.
Raya and the Last Dragon
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Raya and the Last Dragon travels to the fantasy world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons lived together long ago in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people.
The film features the voices of Kelly Marie Tran (Star Wars, The Croods: A New Age) as Raya, a warrior whose wit is as sharp as her blade.
Get in quick with Raya and the Last Dragon as it will have been out for a while by the time Easter hols come around. Cinemas are likely to keep this one rolling, however, as it’s proven immensely popular and Easter is when the majority of its target audience will be able to see it.
Peter Rabbit 2
Off of the success of the genuinely great first film, Peter Rabbit, the lovable rogue, is back.
Bea, Thomas, and the rabbits have made peace as a family, but despite his best efforts, Peter can’t seem to shake his mischievous reputation. Adventuring out of the garden, Peter finds himself on the mean streets of the city where his mischief is appreciated. But when his furry family is put in danger, Peter must figure out what kind of bunny he wants to be.
Featuring an all-star cast including Domhnall Gleeson, James Corden, David Oyelowo, Elizabeth Debicki, Rose Byrne, and Margot Robbie, it’s sure to be an instant family classic.
Tom & Jerry The Movie
The animal kingdom’s most famous rivalry is hitting the big screens in a live-action reboot of the animated classic. Filmed in both live-action and with the cartoonish animation that made the original cartoon series a hit, the film looks set to be a hilarious outing that young and old will enjoy.
A legendary rivalry reemerges when Jerry moves into New York City’s finest hotel on the eve of the wedding of the century, forcing the desperate event planner to hire Tom to get rid of him. As mayhem ensues, the escalating cat-and-mouse battle soon threatens to destroy her career, the wedding, and possibly the hotel itself.
The film stars Chloë Grace Moretz, Ken Jeong, Pallavi Sharda, Michael Peña, and Rob Delaney.
Two By Two: Overboard!
Quirky off-shoot of the biblical tale of Noah and The Ark, this animated comedy looks prime for the young ones. A follow up to the success of the first Two by Two film.
It tells the story of young Nestrian Finny and his best mate Leah, a Grymp, who accidently fall off the ark and are separated, discovering two different worlds full of wild surprises. Finny finds a whole colony of other Nestrians just like himself while Leah washes up on a beautiful island paradise. However, when the ark turns up too, full of hungry animals, the pair must navigate these collided worlds.
Bethany Hamilton: Unstoppable
Bethany Hamilton: Unstoppable is the untold story of the heart of a champion and her resilience against all odds to become one of the leading professional surfers of our time. Brings new meaning to the phrase “surfs like a girl.”
Hamilton was out surfing at the age of 13 when she was attacked by a 15-foot tiger shark, a run-in that cost her her left arm. Not only did she survive the attack, but she was back on the competitive surfing circuit within the year. More than a decade later, Hamilton, now a mother, undertakes her greatest challenge: chasing a toddler and the biggest wave of her career.
Godzilla vs. Kong
These next two films are great for the slightly older ones.
Godzilla vs. Kong is another instalment in the age-old monster v monster films we all know and love. Directed by Adam Wingard, it’s a sequel to Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island. As Kong is being returned to his homeland, Godzilla makes himself known. Humanity must turn to Kong to help them defeat Godzilla, leading to an epic clash of these mythic adversaries that will unravel a deep mystery that lies within the core of the Earth.
The film stars Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, and Kyle Chandler.
Gunda
Rounding off with something that isn’t exactly your typical kids movie but is likely to be a great suggestion for slightly more mature, inquisitive ones all the same, we have Gunda, a film perfect for teaching kids about kindness to animals. It’s an American-Norwegian documentary directed by Viktor Kossakovsky and executive produced by Joaquin Phoenix.
Shot in black-and-white with no dialogue and soft music, it follows the daily life of a pig, two cows, and a one-legged chicken. Rest assured, nothing bad happens to them, but it’s a really heartwarming look at the lives of farm animals and has been described as a “warm bath”.
