If you’ve been lost in a hedge maze for the past week, and only just escaped, congratulations. Second of all, if you didn’t have any internet, then you’ve missed out on some buckwild news. Queen Elizabeth II is dead. King Charles III is in. Moreover, this dude made his inaugural address on Friday, September 9. So, here are the highlights of what he said:
King Charles Really Isn’t Going Anywhere
If you thought that King Charles would maybe abdicate from his royal position, then you’d be sorely mistaken. Because this man has made it super clear that he’s going to be sitting on that throne for as long as he can. At almost the top of his speech, King Charles said, “Queen Elizabeth’s was a life well lived, a promise with destiny kept, and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.”
Moreover, he declared later on, “As the queen herself did with such unswerving devotion, I too now solemnly pledge myself, throughout the remaining time God grants me, to uphold the Constitutional principles at the heart of our nation.”
Camilla Becomes the New Queen
King Charles isn’t the only person to get a monarchical glow-up. “This is also a time of change for my family,” he explained. “I count on the loving help of my darling wife, Camilla. In recognition of her own loyal public service since our marriage seventeen years ago, she becomes my queen consort. I know she will bring to the demands of her new role the steadfast devotion to duty on which I have come to rely so much.”
Meanwhile, Prince William and Princess Catherine become the new Prince and Princess of Scotland. King Charles then noted, “I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.”

King Charles Said Some Nice Things About His Mum
Naturally, losing your mum would suck. So it makes a ton of sense that King Charles would say some sweet things about this woman. He asserted, “I know that her death brings great sadness to so many of you, and I share that sense of loss, beyond measure, with you all.”
In King Charles’ closing remarks he additionally said, “My darling Mama, as you begin your last great journey to join my dear late Papa, I want simply to say this: Thank you. Thank you for your love and devotion to our family.”
