It’s official my friends, live music is back — and it’s never sounded so good. From intimate gigs to arena shows, the music industry is roaring back to life after an unimaginably challenging 12 months.
Australia is one of the few fortunate countries around the world that can once more enjoy a gig, mostly maskless and take in the tunes of their favourite bands which is why we have some stellar performances to look forward to over the next 18 months.
Kings of Leon are one of the acts heading down under — after ten years away from our shores. The Nashville formed foursome released their eighth album When You See Yourself in March 2021 and will perform a set that includes songs from that offering, as well as their seven others.
The group will perform in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth in 2022.
In a statement, frontman Caleb Followill said, “As a band, we feed off the energy our audiences bring and the last time we toured Australia the atmosphere was electric. We can’t wait to get back down there and perform for you all again!”
His brother Nathan, who is the band’s drummer, added, “We’re so looking forward to getting back out on the road with our touring family: we still have the same sound man and guitar tech that we had on our very first show and we also have cousins that are part of our crew.
“But, most of all, it’s the shared experience of performing in front of our fans from all corners of the globe, in person, that we miss. Let’s all come together and celebrate the power of live music.”
Kings of Leon formed in 1999 in Nashville, Tennessee but their full-length debut album Youth and Young Manhood was not released until 2003. The project was recorded, in part at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles which were the subject of a 2013 documentary by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl.
Their fourth studio album Only By the Night was released in 2008 and spawned the hit single Sex on Fire which became the group’s most successful track and won them the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
General public on-sale for all of their Australian shows will be on sale from Friday, April 30, 2021.
Australia will also welcome several international acts in 2021, with Alanis Morrisette, Guns N Roses, Simple Minds and Backstreet Boys all heading to our great southern land.
