In 2007, the disappearance of Madeleine McCann was broadcast everywhere. In 2023, this mystery is still gripping folks across the globe.
Back in February, a woman named Julia Wendell incorrectly claimed that she might be Madeleine McCann. Wendell didn’t remember her childhood, and McCann disappeared at the age of three.
In March, the Metropolitan Police got in the mix, investing £110,000 into getting to the bottom of the Madeleine McCann disappearance.
The German police got involved in May and as of May 23, they have started digging for evidence around Portugal’s Arade Dam. This dam is around 50 km from where Madeleine McCann went missing.
But why are the German police searching this area? Well, it could be because a man named Christian Brueckner visited it. Brueckner is currently a suspect in this case.

Why the German Police Are Searching the Arade Dam
When discussing Arade Dam, the prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters said that Germany’s police might “find evidence there.”
In a separate interview, Wolters said, “They are not tips that come from the accused… But you can imagine that we don’t start searching somewhere in Portugal on the off chance, but that there must be a good reason for it.”
“We do have one, but I ask for your understanding that I cannot disclose it here at the moment, for tactical reasons.”
So, will this investigation get to the bottom of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance? Whelp, we can only hope so. ‘Cause McCann’s family and loved ones have been waiting far too long for some closure.
However, not everyone has faith that this effort will lead to a concrete resolution. Some individuals think that this case has been cold for too long.
As Andre Calado, a dude who works near the dam, said, “Sixteen years later, I very much doubt that they will find anything.”
