Since publishing this story, Network Ten has announced the death of MasterChef Australia judge Jock Zonfrillo on April 30, 2023. MasterChef Australia Secrets and Surprises will now premiere on Sunday, May 7, with the full support of Zonfrillo’s family.
MasterChef Australia: Secrets and Surprises is finally here, so we’re taking some time to put faces to the names of the MasterChef Australia 2023 cast.
Meet Ralph Kahango, a 32-year-old auditor from Western Australia, who is ready to take on the MasterChef Australia kitchen and all of its challenges.
Ralph’s Love for Cooking
Ralph’s journey to the MasterChef kitchen has been influenced by his family, his love for cooking, and his desire to live life to the fullest.
Born in Zimbabwe and raised in South Africa, Ralph moved to Australia at a young age. At university, he achieved a Master of Accounting degree, but after five years as a government auditor, he has decided to pursue his passion for cooking.
Growing up in a large family, Ralph’s love for food began at an early age. Inspired by his mother’s ability to stretch ingredients to feed a family of eight, he and his siblings would cook together, with his older sister and brother passing down their knowledge of flavours. Ralph’s younger sister has been his biggest supporter, and encouraged him to apply for MasterChef Australia 2023.
While baking may not be his strongest suit, Ralph is open to feedback and plans to hone his skills during the competition.

Ralph’s Cooking Heroes and Influences
Ralph’s passion for Italian food has been influenced by chefs like Marco Pierre White, and he has built his culinary knowledge through cookbooks, YouTube, and recreating restaurant dishes.
However, he is eager to share his Zimbabwean food, culture, and traditions with the judges, as he believes food is a unifier and a display of love.
Ralph’s Hobbies, Interests and Dreams Beyond MasterChef Australia
Ralph loves entertaining for friends and family, playing basketball, and watching sports. He also has a serious passion for singing, and often attends gigs and workshops.
Ultimately, Ralph hopes to make a career out of cooking and dreams of hosting his own cooking show.
He knows that life is short and wants to live without regrets, inspired by the memory of his two brothers who passed away at a young age.
With his family and love for cooking by his side, Ralph is ready to take on the MasterChef challenge and showcase his skills to the world.
MasterChef Australia: Secrets and Surprises premieres Sunday, May 7 at 7.30pm, only on 10 and 10 Play on Demand.
