What do Kylie Jenner, Meghan Markle and Gwyneth Paltrow all have in common? They’re fans of US furniture and homewares brand Restoration Hardware, which has locations all across the US, Canada, and soon, in Australia too.
The brand, which carries everything from rugs and bedding, to couches and tables, will hit our shores in late 2025, with a store planned on Bay Street in Sydney’s Double Bay, reports The Australian. “In partnership with developer Fortis, who was behind Neil Perry’s hugely successful Margaret restaurant, the luxury interiors giant will purpose build their first Australian retail concept,” the publication writes.
It describes the store as essentially a showroom with restaurants, “an experiential retail concept that monetises the old aristocratic ‘at home’ invitation”. At the venue, you’ll be able to dine on pizza at outdoor Loggia restaurant, sip rosé on a terrace and browse design books in a library, before buying whatever furniture or homewares might’ve caught your eye during any of the experiences.
For example, “the suite of garden furniture upon which you are sitting, or the famous RH Cloud modular couch that you just admired in one of the bedrooms upstairs,” writes The Australian.
Restoration Hardware calls this concept a “gallery” and operates out of townhouses or converted warehouses across more than 70 locations in the US. The concept also extends to two jets, the RH One and RH Two, as well as a super yacht sailing the Mediterranean and Bahamas called RH Three.
The latest? A UK outpost, called Gallery at Aynho Park, located in Oxfordshire Park on an estate that hosted Jade Jagger’s wedding in 2012. It’s all taupe and white interiors, high and airy halls and drawing rooms that house more of RH’s furniture and homewares.
Paltrow used RH’s interior design team to help create the office space for her lifestyle empire Goop. She incorporated brass pendant lamps, a sofa upholstered in Belgian linen and a chandelier from the brand into its look. Meanwhile, Kylie Jenner once showed a deep, plush couch in her living room that Glamour reported to be part of the Cloud Sofa series from the brand.
“Americans aren’t really known for taste,” RH’s American chairman and chief executive Gary Friedman told The Australian.
“All the luxury brands in the world are basically from Europe and the UK. Yes, we had Tiffany, but then the French bought it. What we’re trying to do with RH is something no one’s ever done – to take an American brand that started probably at the base of what I call the luxury mountain and turn it into a genuine American luxury brand. To climb that mountain.”
