Sony is responsible for bringing us some of the most impressive and digitally-immersive films, the continuously sought-after PlayStation 5, new innovative ways to create technology and now, noise-cancelling earbuds.
The new WF-1000XM4 earbuds from Sony, are priced at  AUD $449.95., and the previous WF-1000XM3s, released in 2019, will remain in the company’s lineup also.
Although they’ve been in the noise-cancelling earbud space since 2019, this updated version has some pretty cool additions that will get you excited.
Sony’s new earbuds will be available in either black or light gray — both with gold accenting, of course.
The completely revamped design is 10% smaller than their predecessors, making them more comfortable or, should we say, less noticeable in your ears. This is a huge perk, as one constant complaint about wireless, noise-cancelling headphones is their feel. With earbuds, they can become uncomfortable in your ears for long periods of time and, with headsets, they can feel heavy, almost like suction pads on your ears.
Well, not these Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds. They also have a new processing chip that results in improved noise cancellation “at all frequencies,” according to Sony.
The battery life has also been upped to eight hours of continuous playback, when the noise-cancelling feature is enabled, which easily beats competitors like the Apple AirPods Pro, Bose QuietComfort Earbuds, and Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro. The charging case has also been downsized by 40%, making it easier to carry around with you. Aside from plugging in over USB-C, it also supports Qi wireless charging.
And finally, Sony has addressed complaints from their first attempt at wireless, noise-cancelling earbuds, the 1000XM3s, by rating these new earbuds IPX4 for water and sweat resistance.
Although there’s still no support for more than one Bluetooth connection, the 1000XM4s have been equipped with a voice call system that uses both beamforming mics and bone conduction sensors to improve performance.
They’re super aesthetic and they do almost everything you could possibly want.
If you’ve never invested in noise-cancelling earbuds or headphones before, I urge you to. If you’re working from home, it can be an incredible resource to help you ignore all the distractions around you.
A personal hack of mine is wearing them on public transport to keep me calm. If you’re like me and get a little anxious in packed spaces or just don’t like the chaos of public transport, noise-cancelling earbuds can seriously help.
The WF-1000XM4 will be available in Australia from mid-July 2021, at at JB Hi-Fi, Amazon, The Good Guys. Sony’s online store.
