This year, Network Ten has been serving up all kinds of new and exciting shows. We’ve said “I could do that” while watching Hunted Australia and The Traitors, and set sail with The Real Love Boat, destination: true love. Now, Ten has given us one last reality competition series to close out the year in The Challenge Australia.

Hosted by Brihony Dawson, The Challenge Australia sees sports legends, influencers and reality TV stars go head to head in a series of intense physical challenges, all while living under the same roof of a very glam villa in Buenos Aires, where the show filmed.

Not only are they competing for the grand prize of $200,000, but the winner will also go on to represent Australia the first ever The Challenge: Global Championship, where they’ll go up against the winners of The Challenge: ArgentinaThe Challenge: USA, and The Challenge: UK.

One of the stars competing for the win is Brooke Blurton, who you’ll remember from her time on The BachelorBachelor in Paradise and The Bachelorette, where she made history as the first Indigenous and bisexual Bachelorette.

Blurton is a proud Noongar-Yamatji woman from Western Australia, and since her time on The Bachelorette, has published a memoir titled Big Love: Reclaiming Myself, My People, My Country, as well as launching podcast Not So PG with co-host Matty Mills.

Going into the competition, Blurton said in a press statement that her strategy for all things in life, “whether work, personal or for fun” was just to be herself, and she was expecting that to be her biggest strength when it came to The Challenge Australia, as well.

“You can do not wrong if you’re just yourself,” she explained. “Though I must admit, I don’t think people have seen a very competitive side to me just yet, and won’t know how much I thrive in competition.”

When it came to preparation, though, the reality star said that she needed to get her “back right before going way”, which involved “lots of acupuncture and physio”, but she also kept active as much as possible.

“I ran and I definitely hit the pools, but I feel like you can’t really prepare for something you have no idea about,” she said.

Meanwhile, when it came time to pack for the adventure, Blurton joked that she felt like “a lot of people would be concerned at the amount of skincare” she took with her.

“But hey, investing in good skincare is investing in yourself,” she said. “It’s my favourite self-care strategy.”

Will Blurton’s self-care be enough to get her to the finish line? Only time will tell. Until then…

The Challenge Australia airs at 7.30pm on Network Ten on Mondays and Tuesdays. Catch up on 10 Play.
