The Maldives Wants You to Work Remotely from the Beach

the maldives

The ultimate honeymoon destination that is The Maldives has suffered the impacts of COVID-19 much like every other popular holiday destination. With travels bans and border closures, the collection of islands in the Indian Ocean has seen a decline in tourism, the republic’s largest industry.

As such, the picturesque spot is eager to welcome back guests as soon and as safely as possible, with one luxury resort even offering a remote working package that encourages people to live the island life while working from the resort grounds.

The Nautilus Maldives reopened to visitors in September — assuring guests that its limited capacity and increased hygiene measures make the private island a safe option for a relaxing break.

For those after a holiday, the Nautilus has a number of offers available — from family packages to entire island hire. For those without annual leave saved up, the resort has revealed a ‘Workation’ package that invites remote workers to go about their day-to-day duties while lounging poolside and sipping cocktails.

Following a welcome champagne and food platter, the resort will set you up with a full office space complete with desk chair, screens, personalised stationery, and unlimited wifi — all with an ocean view (you can even work on a secluded sandbank under a shaded canopy if you like).

For as long as you stay you’ll enjoy having a dedicated personal assistant who brings refreshments and shacks throughout the day, before helping you wrap up for the day with complimentary sunset cocktails.

Those who opt for a Workcation package will stay in the resort’s Beach Houses and will enjoy daily yoga sessions, spa treatments, guided snorkelling experiences, a sunset yacht cruise, daily breakfast, full butler service, water sports, and a cinema under the stars experience. Honestly, we could go on and on about the lavish extras.

With so much to gain from the Workation package, one has to wonder exactly what an experience like this one will cost you. Prices start at $23,250 USD ($31,928 AUD) for a seven-night stay, though you can always choose to stay on and fork out $37,850 USD for a two-week stay or $52,000 USD for a three-week stay. Casual.

The Maldives is currently accepting tourists from all over, so long as they can provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test 72 hours before leaving their home departing destination.

Of course, Australian borders are still closed for overseas travel, so anyone keen to splash out on the experience will have to wait until international travel is allowed once more. For now, you’ll find inspiration on Australian travel ideas and suggestions in our travel hub.
