Another day and yet another cult classic remake. This time 1987’s Three Men and a Baby is being tackled by Disney Plus and Zac Efron, is set to star.
The film will be produced by Gordon Gray (The Rookie, The Way Back) and written bt Will Reichel (Hot Air), however, no director has signed on. As for more cast announcements, Efron is the only actor with current ties to the project.
If you’re unfamiliar with the original, 80s heartthrobs Tom Selleck, Ted Danson and Steve Guttenberg played bachelors living a carefree lifestyle in a shared apartment in New York City.
Their whole world is turned upside down, when Sylvia (Nancy Travis) leaves her daughter on their doorstep, claiming that Jack (Danson) is the baby’s father.
The film was based on a 1985 French movie, Trois Hommes et un Couffin (Three Men and a Cradle) and was written by Jim Cruickshank and James Orr.
Three Men and a Baby was directed by Leonard Nimoy and had huge success at the global box office — reaching $USD 240 million on an $USD 11 million budget.
The initial script for the first movie received a lukewarm reception and was actually turned down by two huge movie houses until it landed on the desk of Walt Disney executives.
In 1990, a sequel which saw the whole cast return was made called Three Men and a Little Lady.
At the time, all three leads were at the peak of their careers.
Selleck was well known for his role as Thomas Magnum in Magnum P.I and even caused 5000 women to audition for the role of 100 needed extras for a party scene.
Danson was almost a decade into his career and was currently playing Sam Malone on Cheers and Guttenberg had a reoccurring role in the Police Academy films.
There’s no word on whether any of these guys will make a cameo appearance, but fingers crossed at least one of them will end up playing Efron’s dad.
Danson, perhaps?
