Wallaby Cabin in Crackenback, Snowy Mountains, a five-and-a-half-hour-drive from Sydney, is now open for bookings. The cabin overlooks rock formation Porcupine Rocks, and is the latest addition to Tiny Away’s portfolio of over 150 tiny houses across the country.
The tiny house is a studio space of 155 sq ft and comes with a kitchenette with cookware and plates, a queen-sized bed and a bathroom. Like in most tiny homes, the bathroom follows ecologically sustainable principles and so features a waterless compost toilet. A stay in the tin house is still far from roughing it, as it offers hot showers, aircon and heating.
In spring and summer, the tiny house is surrounded by pastures, while in the cooler months, by snow-capped mountains where you can ski, snowboard or sled. Though off-grid, it is also a short drive away from restaurants, cafés and shops including Crackenback Restaurant Farm, Alpine Larder Cafe and Wild Brumby Distillery, which has live music and locally crafted drinks.

Perisher, Charlotte Pass and Thredbo are also a short drive away, as well as Lake Crackenback, where you can stroll riverside, hike or trout fish.
“All of our properties offer something different,” says Jeff Yeo, co-founder of Tiny Away once said. Some are only semi-secluded and close to shops and activities, and others are in the middle of nowhere. It’s all about leaving the worries of the daily grind behind and really connecting with the natural surrounds.”
Should you choose to stay at the cabin, catch a stunning display of stars from outside, bundled up by the cabin’s fire pit. During the day, take one of the many nearby walking trails or explore the rock caves at the top of the property.
To add to the off-grid experience, the cabin doesn’t have Wifi, though it does have good mobile reception. Like the rest of Tiny Away’s home, Wallaby Cabin has minimalist, modern décor, which makes it feel more spacious and calming.
