One thing is certain, Tom Cruise has not lost that loving feeling.
Thirty-three years after Top Gun premiered in theatres, Maverick is back and there’s a brand new trailer.
Top Gun: Maverick, which premieres in cinema June 25 2020, sees Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, back where he belongs — pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot.
In this new installment, Maverick finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialised mission.
Here, he encounters Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt Nick “Goose” Bradshaw (played by Anthony Edwards).
The film also stars Mad Men’s Jon Hamm, Ed Harris and of course, Val Kilmer, who is returning as “Iceman”.
Jennifer Connelly will play Maverick’s new love interest, as Kelly McGillis, who played Charlie in the original was not asked back.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, McGillis said that she wouldn’t return for a variety of reasons.
“It hasn’t happened,” she said. “I don’t really keep in touch with anybody.”
Top Gun premiered in 1986, making $350 million USD from a budget of $15 million USD and made mega hits out of songs Take My Breath Away, Danger Zone and You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling.
Top Gun: Maverick is in cinemas June 25, 2020.
