The Secure Jobs, Better Pay Bill Is Dropping
The Federal Government plans to put its Secure Jobs, Better Pay Bill before parliament on October 27. This is huge because the law, if passed, is set to be quite a shake-up.
This bill will put an end to pay secrecy clauses. These clauses are what stop employees at a company from discussing how they much get paid amongst each other.
“These clauses have been used to conceal gender pay discrepancies,” said a government statement.
“Banning them will improve transparency, reduce the risk of gender pay discrimination and empower women to ask their employers for pay rises.”
It’s also believed that this bill will propose allowing multi-employer bargaining rights to take place. This means that individuals in similar businesses could be treated as one unit when negotiating their pay and working conditions.
George Floyd’s Family Is Suing Kanye West
The members of George Floyd’s family are suing Kanye West for $250 million. This is because, on the podcast Drink Champs, West incorrectly stated that Floyd died of a fentanyl overdose. This is a conspiracy theory, as Floyd was murdered by the former police officer, Derek Chauvin. Chauvin had killed Floyd by kneeling on his neck.
Floyd’s family is saying that West’s remarks resulted in them experiencing harassment, defamation, and emotional distress. They also said that the rap artist had retraumatised Floyd’s young daughter and damaged the Floyd estate.

Ukraine Is to Receive Drone Defence From NATO
In more serious news, Russia has attacked the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv with a series of kamikaze drones. This attack killed four people and destroyed civilian infrastructure.
Vitali Klitschko, the Mayor of Kyiv, said in response to this attack, “The Russians need a Ukraine without Ukrainians.”
The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) has replied to this situation by promising Ukraine anti-drone air defence systems. It’s hoped that these weapons will help the country fend off future Russian attacks.
