Whether you’re already back at work like me, or have a few more days of relaxation before you turn back on your laptop, you’re no doubt already thinking about your next break. Time off can do wonders for our physical and mental well-being, allowing us to come back to work more motivated and re-inspired than before.
So, you’ll be pleased to know there is another possible break for you coming up, and it’s not too far away at all. The holiday comes in the form of a whopping five days — long enough for you to truly ease into a relaxation routine — and requires you taking off just two days of work.
I’ll break it down for you. Every year, the Australia Day public holiday takes place on January 26, and this year, that day falls on a Wednesday, making it smack-bang in the middle of the week. So, taking off either Monday and Tuesday beforehand or Thursday and Friday after will give you a whole (well-deserved) five days off.
In fact, if you want even more of a break, why not take both the Monday and Tuesday and the Thursday and Friday off, and treat yourself to nine days off? Nine for the price of four? Sounds like a big win to us.
By now you’re probably wondering what other leave days you should be booking to hack the public holidays for even more time off this year. And while you can read our full guide to hacking the 2022 public holidays here, know that the months to look at this year are April, June and December.
In April, booking just eight days of annual leave around Good Friday, Easter Monday and Anzac Day can get you a huge 17-day holiday. While in June, booking four days of leave around the Queen’s Birthday can result in a nine-day holiday (for everyone except those in QLD and WA).
And, finally, in December, if you book three days around Christmas and New Year’s (yes, wild to already be thinking about these days for this year), you’ll get a generous 10 days off. But for this hack, in particular, you’ll want to get in quick before your colleagues, as for most workplaces, it’s likely not everyone can get the time around the holidays off.
