The White Lotus: Sicily is in full swing, and although we’re only midway through the season, fans of the HBO series have been dream-casting the third season.

Ranging from fictional characters from movies and scripted television shows to whole casts of reality shows, fans have been voicing their opinions about who should check into The White Lotus next year.

From popular choices like the casts of Succession, and Hacks, to movie characters from films like Bodies Bodies Bodies, to reality stars like those of Jersey Shore and Vanderpump Rules, the running theme was generally that the characters that people want to check into the White Lotus are deliciously awful.

It’s in keeping with the themes of The White Lotus. The first season of the series was set in Hawaii and explored themes of imperialism and classism, while the second season is more focused on gender roles and jealousy. Creator Mike White told Vulture that the second season is written to be “a bedroom farce with teeth.”

The first season of the show swept the 2022 Emmys, winning 10 of its 20 nominations, including a win for Jennifer Coolidge, who plays fan favourite character Tanya McQuoid and is the only returning character for The White Lotus: Sicily.

HBO recently confirmed that there is a third season of The White Lotus in the works, but details about its location, plot and themes are, of course, pretty scant right now (although White has hinted that it could possibly be set in Japan).

While Twitter users have been tweeting their picks for a couple of weeks, it picked up steam after actor Ben McKenzie replied to a user’s tweet suggesting they send the cast of The O.C. to a White Lotus that the trend really took off.

“Let’s do this,” McKenzie, who played Ryan Atwood on the early 00s drama, replied to @realnorireed.

The OC was a smash hit series when it premiered in 2003. It follows Ryan Atwood, a teen from the wrong side of the tracks, as he moves in with the wealthy, upperclass Cohen family in Newport Beach, California and becomes entangled in the lives of the rich folk around him. In another world, the Coopers, Roberts’ and Cohens could definitely be checking into a White Lotus any day now, and we’d be interested to see how it all played out.

In the meantime, though, let’s look at Twitter’s best suggestions for characters they’d like to see check into a White Lotus resort.
