If you’re looking for a new game to wage your apartment on (which we do not recommend), then here’s a reminder: Friends exists as a Monopoly game.
The game has been available in Australia for a while, however it just dropped exclusively in the US on Amazon, so naturally the whole world is talking about it. Consider this your gentle reminder to go ahead and purchase as we wait for the highly anticipated Friends reunion — which was just announced by new streaming site HBO Max.
The reunion is set to bring the entire cast back together in an “untitled, unscripted special” and hopefully, we’ll get the closure we’ve been waiting for — however, there’s no confirmed air date, so we need something to tide us over.
You can buy it from a range of different retailers, including EB Games, and it’s probably the best $70 bucks you’ll ever spend. While it’s not going to be anything like the game Monica, Rachel, Chandler, and Joey play in “The One with the Embryos” (seriously, when will they release this game?), there will be trivia questions throughout.
Just like a normal game of Monopoly, you can still accumulate fortunes but also caught out by taxes, jail, and bankruptcy as you pivot around the board.
The official game outline reads: “Advance to Ross’ Teeth, All the Thanksgivings, Phoebe Gets Married – will you owe rent or reap the rewards? Invest in Central Perk sofas and coffee mugs and trade your way to success.”
And then there are the tokens.
To represent Ross, there is, of course, a dinosaur; a handbag for Rachel, the infamous sweater vest combo for Chandler, a pizza for Joey, a chef’s hat for Monica and a guitar for Smelly Cat playing Phoebe.
But it doesn’t stop there.
The monopoly money is decorated with illustrations including the turkey with sunglasses and as you go around the board, you are able to own iconic parts of Friends including the apartments 19 and 20 (where Joey, Chandler, Monica, and Rachel lived) plus Joey’s boat and of course, the Giant Poking Device.
Of course, the famed game is still Monopoly, which causes friction in households. Just remember that Chandler is not a transponster… and you might just win it all.
