Since publishing this story, Network Ten has announced the death of MasterChef Australia judge Jock Zonfrillo on April 30, 2023. MasterChef Australia Secrets and Surprises will now premiere on Sunday, May 7, with the full support of Zonfrillo’s family.
MasterChef Australia: Secrets and Surprises is here, marking the return of Australia’s favourite cooking competition program. Ahead of the new season, we’ve been getting to know the MasterChef Australia 2023 cast, and among them is one familiar face.
That’s right, folks, Season 13’s Brent Draper is making a comeback to the MasterChef kitchen in 2023.
Brent’s Life After MasterChef Australia 2021
In 2021, Brent made the decision to step away from the MasterChef Australia competition to focus on his mental health.
As part of his healing journey, Brent embarked on an adventure of a lifetime with his wife and young son, travelling around Australia in a renovated bus. Now, Brent is equipped with a toolkit of exercise, meditation, and mantras, and he’s ready to compete for the MasterChef Australia win once more.
As a National Coles Ambassador, Brent has spent the past two years developing recipes and content for the retailer. He is also passionate about sharing his mental health journey, particularly with men, to show that it is possible to come out stronger on the other side.
Brent hopes to take home the trophy, but his main goal is to inspire others to tackle their problems head-on.

What Brent Is Bringing to MasterChef Australia: Secrets and Surprises
In the MasterChef kitchen, Brent plans to bring big flavours with a focus on seafood and meat over coals, South-East Asian and Middle Eastern influences, and plenty of umami. With his inside knowledge of the competition, he hopes to handle the judges’ secrets and surprises with ease.
Inspired by his travels, Brent’s next goal is to buy a farm in South Australia and open a small campground where he can welcome and cook for travellers.
With his positive attitude and determination, there’s no doubt that Brent is a force to be reckoned with both in and out of the kitchen.
MasterChef Australia: Secrets and Surprises premieres Sunday, May 7 at 7.30pm, only on 10 and 10 Play on Demand.
