Since publishing this story, Network Ten has announced the death of MasterChef Australia judge Jock Zonfrillo on April 30, 2023. MasterChef Australia Secrets and Surprises will now premiere on Sunday, May 7, with the full support of Zonfrillo’s family.
Australia’s favourite cooking competition series has returned, and that means, it’s time to meet the MasterChef Australia 2023 cast. One of the hopeful home cooks who will be competing on MasterChef Australia: Secrets and Surprises this year is Malissa Fedele, a 28-year-old clinical nutritionist from Adelaide, Australia.
Malissa’s Love for Cooking
With her Bachelor of Health Science in hand, Malissa understands the crucial link between good food and good health. Growing up in a big, boisterous Italian family, she learned early on that food brings people together and creates memories that last a lifetime.
Raised in a household where her parents owned a fruit and vegetable store, Malissa and her siblings worked alongside them, while her Nonna and mother encouraged her to explore her love of cooking.
Today, Malissa’s favourite cuisine is Italian, and she finds making pasta and sauces from scratch to be therapeutic and calming. She loves to cook for her family and partner, Ryan, preferring savoury dishes over sweet.

Malissa’s MasterChef Australia Goals
Malissa sees her participation in MasterChef Australia 2023 as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
During the competition, Malissa plans to practice daily reflection through journaling and maintain her fitness through running, yoga, or pilates.
Her goal is to showcase her Italian flair and impress the judges while staying true to her passion for healthy, simple, and affordable cooking.
As a clinical nutritionist, Malissa’s focus is on women’s health needs. She provides nutritional consultations to help women make better dietary choices to support their emotional and physical wellbeing. Having dealt with anxiety herself, Malissa has developed a line of wellness journals that use nutrition as a tool to manage anxiety.
Beyond the show, she hopes to pen her own cookbooks and host a cooking show that demonstrates how easy and enjoyable it is to create nourishing meals from scratch.
MasterChef Australia: Secrets and Surprises premieres Sunday, May 7 at 7.30pm, only on 10 and 10 Play on Demand.
